"Donor-based spin qubits in silicon"

Időpont: 2016. november 22. (kedd) 10:00 (1 óra)
Hely: MTA Wigner FK SZFI, I. épület 1. emeleti Tanácsterem
Összefoglaló:
Recent years have seen important experimental advances toward quantum
information processing with electron spins and nuclear spins in
semiconductors. An exceptionally promising qubit system is a phosphorus
donor embedded in a silicon crystal [1]. The qubit can be encoded either in
the spin of the donor-bound electron, or the nuclear spin of the phosphorus
atom. A recent proposal [2] highlights the possibility of encoding a qubit
in the combined electron-nuclear system, providing an opportunity to use
electric fields to realize fast single-qubit and two-qubit quantum logical
operations. In the talk, I will review this proposal and present our
theoretical results on the qubit´s relaxation mechanisms and time scales
[3]. Our main conclusion is that even though the qubit lifetime can be 8
orders of magnitude shorter in the proposed nanostructure than in bulk
silicon, it is still much longer than the times required for the logical
operations.
